Long before the photojournalistic style to wedding photography came into vogue, I had been shooting Hilton Head weddings with an eye for quietly capturing emotions and expressions as they unfold. As the staff photographer for the nationally circulated magazine, Hilton Head Monthly, I was able to sharpen my skills as both a photojournalist and a technical photographer. Shooting weddings on the weekend was a natural progression and a creative outlet to apply my skills and style.

After seven years with the magazine, I moved on and in 2003 founded Kaufman Photography. Although I have found tremendous success in the commercial and editorial fields of photography – creating advertising and marketing images for regional and national clients, as well as advertising agencies – I have never let go of one of the truly enjoyable aspects of being a professional photographer. Namely, providing ordinary folks with extraordinary images, and helping them to commemorate the special moments in their lives.

As you can see from my portfolio, I provide a mix of candid and posed, color and black and white, people and places. My belief is that wedding photos should be a reflection of how people actually remember the day: Sometimes the groom looks right at you with a beaming smile; sometimes you catch a glimpse of the bride as she takes in the sight of herself in a mirror; sometimes you witness a great grandmother holding an infant she’s never seen before. These are the memories that last in your mind, and they are the type of images I try to capture at every wedding I attend.

Rob in Action

Sometimes it is hard to get a feel for what the experience of working with a photographer will be like in actuality. Here we do our best to give you an idea of that experience. It is relaxed, creative, improvative (if that is a word) and fun! Sessions don’t always go as we plan and… sometimes, we shoot the day after on a foggy morning because the wedding say was a torrential downpour.

…sometimes the bride suddenly decides to “trash the dress” or

…sometimes, we shoot the day after on a foggy morning because the wedding day was a torrential downpour.

And sometimes it all works out!

Whatever the circumstances, Rob goes the extra mile to capture those wedding day memories. After all, that is what we are gathered here to do for you on your most special day.
